Airbus and Boeing production line comparison

Boeing and Airbus are, as we all know, are in fierce battle for more orders but how do they stay on top of them? In today's blog post we will delve into the production lines of Airbus and Boeing.

Both designers have most airplane parts built elsewhere and they come to the final assembly line to put all the together. Parts include:

-Engines from Rolls Royce and General Electric

-wings from UK

The differences between the Airbus and Boeing production lines are both large and small. Such as the fact that the Boeing setup is all in one building and there are steps in which you can't change the order. The advantage of this setup is the fact that you only need to invest in your tools one rather than two or three times. The drawback is that if one plane has a problem for some reason, all the planes behind it cannot skip to the step in front of the plane with a problem. And this has happened before, surprisingly.

The Airbus setup, has multiple hangars and buildings, with each final assembly line in a different hangar. The problem is, you have to invest in tools multiple times. The advantage is if one plane is damaged, the rest of the planes are still free to move along the final assembly line. Airbus has invested in this setup because it has many A320 family orders to keep up with. They aim to deliver 60 A320neo family planes each month!

So, I think that the Airbus setup is only suitable once you have the money to buy it. I personally think the Airbus setup is better because you can freely move your planes.
